Summary

Terra Kaffe is looking for a SVP of Operations and Finance to join our highly-caffeinated team.

The SVP of Operations and Finance, a key leader with a seat at the table, will play an integral role in shaping the long-term business strategy of the company and helping bring that vision to fruition through operational execution and excellence. You will operate with an analytical (and creative) approach to identify new areas of growth while also keeping a close eye on improving existing workflows, KPIs, and overall execution. As part of this role, you will interface closely with both external and internal stakeholders. You will collaborate and help continuously grow with the Sr. Director of Accounting, Strategic Finance Sr. Manager, Operations Sr. Manager, Operations Associate, and Logistics Coordinator.

The Finance team at Terra Kaffe is responsible for company forecasting & scenario analyses, board / investor reporting, ad hoc cross-functional projects, budget planning, cash flow management, debt & equity fundraising efforts, corporate development / M&A, ERP implementation, and other special projects. The Operations team is responsible for development of scalable systems (Netsuite ERP, 3PLs, ASPs, Wholesaler EDI, etc) as well as management of demand-planning, inventory management, procurement, warehousing, supply-chain management, vendor relationships, quality control, and after-sales servicing.

The ideal candidate has rigorous experience with Excel modeling, sensitivity analyses, and forecasting in deal-making or high-growth environments. You are looking for an opportunity to leverage your banking, private equity, consulting foundation, or industry expertise towards scaling an exciting, high-growth startup. You thrive in fast-paced environments, can switch between thinking macro and micro, desire broad exposure to all parts of the business, enjoy operating with autonomy but also working collaboratively and cross-functionally, and can help us chip away at the office coffee supply.

This is a full time position based in Manhattan, NY (Flatiron) and will report to Terra Kaffe’s Founder and CEO.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key senior leader and active voice for the entire Terra Kaffe organization

  • Lead business growth by improving operating procedures and promoting efficiency

  • Hire, manage, and grow top-tier teams, cultivating a culture of excellence and collaboration

  • Collaborate with department heads to maintain a constant, forward-looking pulse on the business and anticipate the various ways our projections can fluctuate

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of our systems and data flows to support ongoing operations and reporting, as well as identify areas for creating greater cross functional efficiencies and synergies

  • Own the company operating model, helping establish a common operating picture by keeping our revenue forecasts, cash estimates, and business outlook up to date

  • Execute complex projects and tasks end-to-end: project scoping, timeline setting, data collection, running analyses, executive reporting, and providing recommendations (example projects include product pricing, inventory planning, and cohort analyses)

    • Own and manage manufacturing relationships for existing product lines, both with final assemblers and Tier I suppliers, as well as new products (in NPI process)

  • Applicants must be amenable to make quarterly or bi-annual trips to Asia and other international locations for purposes of relationship management, sourcing projects, manufacturing oversight, in-person negotiations, etc.

  • Prepare Board and investor related materials

  • Lead or play a meaningful role in any capital raising (equity and debt), M&A, or other corporate development initiatives

  • Lead department budgeting as part of annual and ongoing planning

  • Support implementation and operationalization of Netsuite as the company’s new ERP system in order to continue building scalable operations and processes

  • Lead contract and performance negotiations with product suppliers and key vendors to secure the best outcomes (production readiness, BOM cost optimization, adherence to OQC and AQL standards, maintaining project deliverable timelines, etc.) for the business

  • Identify and manage key business operations metrics/KPIs, as well as design and develop dashboards to track progress

  • Help other department heads professionalize their analytics and data infrastructure to support strategic decision making

  • Assist CEO with ad-hoc analyses and special projects

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 10-15 years experience in investment banking, venture capital, private equity, management consulting, or relevant, high-growth industry experience

  • Early-stage startup, DTC, e-commerce, consumer goods, or connected hardware experience is preferred

  • Strong analytical skills and mastery of Microsoft Excel modeling and shortcuts

  • Strong communication and writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Experience and comfortability using analysis and data to draw conclusions and make recommendations with imperfect information

  • Ability to adapt in a fast paced environment, while maintaining positive outlook

  • Openness to the volatility (and learning opportunity) of an early stage, high-growth startup

  • Desire to work in a creative environment with a willingness to help brainstorm new ideas

  • Passion for coffee is a plus!
